One Room Challenge - Week 3

I guess you can call this HALF-TIME of the One Room Challenge - Week 3! As an e-Designer, a lot of my initial time is spent on the computer...sourcing well-priced product; curating furnishings and accessories that are Earth-friendly, sustainable and human-kind; creating concept boards that try to achieve a cohesive look; creating a schematic floorplan that a makes sure the measurements are correct and a cutting edge 3D render. While I'm tackling the technical side of designing my interior, I am also about to get very physical in this process and quite frankly, I don't know which endeavor I really enjoy more! Thus, this challenge for me has become a sort of 'Hybrid' as most of my real life projects have evolved into as well.

This past week, as you can see on my Concept Board, I have landed on a few interesting elements for my Bedroom. It was love at first sight, when I laid eyes on my beautiful new dresser for the room. Practically going out the door from a wonderful store in my hometown I spotted something chic! It is a transitional piece called the 'Melrose' dresser by Gabby Home with a curvilinear silhouette and matching drawer cutouts. Even the minimal brass hardware is unique and the oak solids and oak veneers are weathered in a gray finish that shows the beautiful textured grain. Delivery is scheduled for the coming week.

This week I afforded myself one day to attend the High Point Furniture Market - the largest furniture convention in the U.S.A held biannually here in NC. All required safety measures were in place during these drastic times yet in spite of it all, it was a pretty good home fashion show nonetheless. Some photos of my journey--

So much beautiful furniture and décor are showcased at this bi-annual convention, and I love learning about newly manufactured products being made in a more socially responsible way. Gabby Home is making future efforts to follow guidelines on the Sustainable Furniture Council (SFC) which makes me happy to see!

For the One Room Challenge I have specified some beautiful rugs, from Surya and Jaipur and will still need to decide which one will win out. They have beautiful hand loomed rugs crafted with natural and soft materials that I can really appreciate. Also on my concept board are some beautiful accessories that I have been coordinating with my current furniture in the bedroom, including some wonderful bedding that I have been taking my sweet time decorating with. Stay tuned!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention MY October surprise, that may actually have to take place sometime in the near future because of diminished supply and slow installation lead times. My render brought it to life and I am not going to let go of it any time soon. Every Owner's suite deserves a fire element and one of the most sustainable routes this can be achieved is by way of a fan forced electric fireplace. I even admire the visual variety because our rooms here in the South of the country are heated very efficiently in our mild winters, and cooled just as efficiently in the summer. While one can always appreciate the indulgence of an authentic real wood burning fireplace, our builder even installed a gas burning one in our living room, there are many more eco-friendly varieties on the market today. I'll for sure keep you updated.

Alright! my path is being forged and next week things really start to heat up and get interesting, so bring on Week 4 of the One Room Challenge!!

See last week's post here.
