A Winter Solstice Bedroom

What a difference a 'Duvet' cover makes!

You can imagine how excited I was when when shopping for bedding during this Fall's One Room Challenge event, when I fell in love with a second duvet cover for my Owner's Bedroom Suite, that I just had to have. Take a look back from my last Blog entry to see what got me started on the road to bedroom bliss!

The last several years, I slept only with quilts, and while I love the comfort and ease of them, not to mention the beautiful patterns and textiles, I found myself longing for more loft in the Winter season. Since I live in the South East, our shorter Winter season can definitely call for one, if only for a couple of months. With the recent creation of Down Alternatives and light season Duvets, I decided to give them a try again. Can you imagine my excitement when I discovered a world of beautiful covers for duvets and comforters offered in luxurious linens and cotton varieties. And so many unique patters and designs, colors and textures. This one I picked up from Crate and Barrel.

It is constructed of a beautiful cotton, crafted in Italy, and displays a contemporary abstract pattern of golds and silver upon white. I purchased it planning a Winter seasonal refresh for my main bedroom. It sleeps cool and crisp and stays in place with neat ties in the inside corners. Coupled with organic cotton sheets that are pesticide and insecticide free, I and the workers that harvest them, can be guaranteed that the crops these were derived from contribute to a healthier, safer planet.

Décor

Oh what fun it is! to decorate for the seasons. The winter season especially because of all the Holidays that encompass it. Since in some parts of the globe the winters can be cold and darker, I look forward to bringing more light into the home. I love to burn candles, try soy based, and little tea lights for accents. Even tea lights come battery operated for longer lasting and flickering flames. Some of my favorite scented candles are made with essential oils that are wonderful for purifying your surroundings. Try blends with frankincense, myrrh, and sandalwood. They are so heavenly.

And speaking of plants and flowers, our environment can become so barren in the winter. It's definitely a sign of new growth in the making, but why not salvage nature's goodness and decorate your home with your findings. Some leaves of evergreen are filled with fresh aromas Even clippings, promote good growth and is nature's gift to you!

Theme

So in case you haven't realized yet, I decided on a "Winter White" color palette this season for my bedroom suite. Hopefully this will fully be embellished with  real snow, but here in my neck of the woods, we only average about 7 inches. Wishes do come true...occasionally for us :)  But in the meantime, I will marvel at the winter sky, so clear and dark this time of year, the changing shades of grey, green, and beige in the forest, and the vast array of tactile layering. Please, have a look around my space I created this year. Perhaps it will inspire you to get outside your comfort zone, even for a little while, and enjoy your outside environs. Maybe bring back inside a little treasure that will remind you of what's all around us on this beautiful globe. Wishing all Peace on Earth this Winter and Holiday Season!!

Hi Deb! It was fun to read this post to see what you chose for your Winter Solstice bedroom. I can't believe we will soon be moving from the longest day of the year, on the 21st, into the shortest day of the year again. I hope you stay nice and toasty under your new duvet and that you and your husband have a very Merry Christmas.
