With Earth Day upon us soon this year, I am wondering how our human kind will be celebrating and honoring all things earth related! With #nationalparkweek occurring simultaneously, it's not hard to bring nature into our lives and get outside to enjoy. After a long hard year of people hunkering down in their homes and nesting for the greater cause, what better way to enjoy the great outdoors but with solace and intention. For those that still are focusing on their homes as a central place of sanctuary, I created a small space for that someone looking to create a more intimate space of relaxation.
The Wine Nook
As part of a contest entry for the eDesign Tribe I am a member of, the challenge was to create a space that included two of our sponsors , Revel Woods floors , & Plum, maker of wine dispensers. I chose an open concept floor plan, and decided to transform a cozy nook that would blend perfect into my design! Some of the elements I chose to use were earth-friendly products as well. Read on to learn how this unique space can perhaps be created in your home or office!
Biophilia Element-
For a holistic overview of this space, I turned to biophilia as my main concept. Biophilia from the Webster/ Merriam dictionary defines it here:
bio·phil·ia|\ ˌbī-ō-ˈfi-lē-ə, -ˈfēl-yə\
Definition of biophilia
: a hypothetical human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature : a desire or tendency to commune with nature
Some may call it "bringing the outside in", or "love of nature" and "love of life and living world" -
Evident of the this use in my design are the butterflies decor that hang overhead, the fresh greenery, organic art , and the natural lighting. It's a happy space filled with natural elements that uplift and sooth the soul.

Jaipur Rugs-
The natural weave rug I chose from this wonderful company that supports fair-trade with their Artisans is out of their 'Genesis' collection. It is contemporary in nature and the bold Matcha design, earthy pallet, and eclectic pattern add a sophisticated touch of style. Blended of natural wool fibers and lustrous viscose it is plush and feels ultra-soft for the feet. It also comes in many beautiful color-ways.

Inspired by global travels, this highly design-driven company brings eclectic and a relaxed style
to their wide range of handcrafted furnishings and decor. I especially admire their 'Artemis' table crafted from black resin to create a swirling wonder of creams, dark greys and white for a unique finish. Truly each piece of art is a one-of-a-kind.
Touchstone Fireplace-
There is something to be said relaxing next to a flickering fire. But a clean and carbonless alternative are the new varieties of electric. Adjustable flame controls and temperature variations make this an easy install in any space. Remote controlled and blue tooth enabled make it smart enabled. Revel Woods-
All Revel Woods products are handcrafted and custom curated; sourced and produced completely in North America; sustainably harvested, and ethically manufactured. With a little extra attention to detail, luxury and responsibility can happily coexist. The hardwood I chose was from their Skyways collection is called 'Kachina'. This was named after a natural bridge in National Monument Utah, for a petroglyph. I love that the name derives from Pueblo Native Americans and it's connotation relates to the many divine and ancestral spirit beings who interact with humans. This is the final reveal of the biophilic Wine Nook for the contemporary open-concept living space I designed.
