ORC Spring 2023 - Week 4 | Half-Time

I am back with a blog post for week 4 of the One Room Challenge! It is the halfway point of this fun event. Things were getting a bit tense here at the ranch, as we nervously awaited the arrival of the Cosentino technician for the measurement appointment. All in all I must admit that it went pretty smoothly. I didn't have to make any surprise last minute decisions and feel pretty confident in the decisions made regarding the quartz countertop material. All the sinks and plumbing fixtures were on site, and the technician was able to proceed with his appointment as requested.

Take a look back to  Week 1 |  Week 2  to get caught up on this project.

Surprise, Surprise!

Another surprise project was thrown into the mix, and I suppose I should catch you up as well. We decided to have another piece of the same slab of Silestone cut for a countertop replacement in the upstairs bathroom! Back to the drawing board I went as I drafted plans for the upstairs vanity and what it would look like. I am excited for how the design will materialize in the next few weeks.

Now I am sure I have bit off more than I can chew, but I am very motivated to wrap up the bathroom and laundry room renovations since they are long overdue for a more modern update and refresh. While I won't be changing out the tile in the bathrooms, since they are wonderful sustainable porcelains, I will do them justice with the new additions. The cabinetry will also be remaining as I plan to reface the ensuite cabinet only. There are sooo many technical details to consider when updating bathrooms, kitchen, and laundry rooms. I believe I have covered them all. I also, have been in contact with the plumber that will be responsible for the installs.

In the Meantime...

The laundry room project, which is the main challenge I entered into the ORC event, received a few more installs this past week. LED ceiling lighting was chosen for the area and provides great lighting for this space. Also, shiplap went up, and I decided to wrap it around the 2 walls viewed from the garage entrance and will have to wrap more wallpaper as well. I am awaiting samples from our local Spoonflower and thought this would be economical and save on carbon emissions.

There is a bit of a hiccup that needs the attention of a professional here. I would like to gain some more square footage in the room so there is the question of how to run the flexible duct from the laundry tower to the the outside vent. Also an electrician might have to stop by to relocate an outlet or two.

Highpoint, Here I come!

It is that time again, and the High Point Furniture Market spring show was going on this past week. While having to source product for clients this season, I too, was in the market to curate a sampling for my current projects. While this show is not trade specific to the kitchen & bath industry, I was able to scout out some of the more decorative fixtures that I would need for the bathrooms. Specifically, I was most interested in bathroom mirrors that could withstand humidity and water. Also, I would love a surface mounted medicine cabinet, but we'll just have to wait and see if this turns out to be viable. Lighting is one of my favorite design elements to shop for, and there are several lighting showrooms that carry gorgeous fixtures. Because of previous appointment commitments, I was only going to be able to attend market for 1 day, and so I had my work cut out for me!

Here is a sneak preview from my time there---
